Emergency Appeal: Two earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.8 and 7.5 have struck Turkey

On February 6, 2023, at 4:17 am whilst people were asleep in their homes the first of two massive earthquakes hit followed by 145 aftershocks, three of which were as large as 6.0 magnitude. Areas that were affected included Kayseri, Malatya, Adana, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep and Hatay.

Within 12 hours, the second disastrous quake hit at a magnitude of 7.5 whilst rescue operations were underway. More than 2,300 people have been killed across Turkey, with the number continuously rising. Turkish officials claim more than 9,700 people have been injured and around 3,500 buildings have been demolished.

These earthquakes are the worst to hit Turkey in 19 years with millions of people across Turkey and Cyprus feeling the earthquakes.

The death toll has risen to over 30,000 deaths in less than a week with ongoing rescue operations which show people being pulled out of rubble, alive, almost 150 hours since the earthquakes first hit.  It is vital to keep donating so that the victims can get the urgent help and care that they need.
